A Vox AC100 SDL ("Super de Luxe") speaker cabinet
Early 1965
On this page, pictures of a truly wonderful example of a second generation AC100 SDL speaker cabinet with basket-top trolley from early 1965, still in the UK. Its Celestion T1088 speakers have mid December 1964 date codes. The wiring largely follows the pattern that can be seen in a slightly earlier second generation SDL cab - well used in all its glory - pictures and notes here.
The condition of the cab illustrated below tends to suggest that it was not sent out on loan - as most early ones were - but either retained by JMI for whatever reason, or sold to a buyer who did not use it in much in public.
The amp issued with this cab will have had black grille cloth, a thick-edged box, black control panel, and serial number probably somewhere in the range 230-250.
Thanks to the cab's owner for the superb pictures.
Note the position of jack socket on the centre board. The earliest cabs had sockets on the lowest back board.
Moulded plastic logo.
As in the case of the cabinet pictured on this page, paired-up 1uf capacitors are fixed in each compartment (to protect the Midax horns from damaging low frequencies). The capacitors in first generation/format cabs are all in the bottom of the enclosure.
Date code "11MJ" - 11th December 1964, as always, simply the date of the manufacture of the speaker, not of the cabinet as a whole.
