Jennings Electronic Industries Line Source 412 columns

Detail from Derek Underdown's copy of the Jennings Electronic Developments brochure of early 1969 (certainly in existence by the time of the Frankfurt Trade Fair). Thanks to Toni Standing, Derek's daughter.

Just to repeat that one of the key selling points of Tom's line source speakers was that they were free-standing - "The cabinet is angled at the rear and sloped at the front to stand squarely on the floor". The chrome tilt-back stands of the Vox line source columns could therefore be dispensed with - "obsoleted" if one follows the expression used in the advert for the Frankfurt Fair further below.

The Patent applications asserted on the serial number plates - applications 15698 and 58809 (yet to be traced in the available records) - are also to be found on LS412 plates - see below.

The price of an LS412 from 1968 through to 1971 was £67 each, the LS410 being £46 in this period.

Advert placed in the British music press to advertise Jennings's presence at the Frankfurt Fair.

In 1973, the LS412 jumped in price from £75 each (in January) to the princely sum of £82.50 (quoted in June), then to be deleted from the catalogue along with the LS410. The Jennings range was thoroughly overhauled in the summer - in time for display at the Russell Hotel Trade Fair in August. The column speakers - the LS410 and LS412 - were replaced by 2 x 12" cabinets, with or without horns.

Characteristics

Speakers were generally Fane 122/10s, 8 ohms apiece, wired in series-parallel for a total impedance of 8 ohms, power handling 80-100 watts. Serial numbers began at 1000.

The cabinet maker was probably Henry Glass, who had done much work for Tom in JMI days.

Serial number 1297.
